- media making::video - baku lost
Learn the basics of shooting, editing, and production video. Discuss corporate media control and independent alternatives to the corporate media. Participants will document the skillshare event and produce a short clip of what has transpired. This session will focus on shooting, with editing later in the day.
- sauerkraut – alejandro
Step by step tutorial on making your own sauerkraut. You’ll take some home at the end.
- sew it up – margie
Learn how to sew by hand. This skill can remedy any kind of tears or rips in clothes that are perfectly functional otherwise, eliminating more waste from the landfills. You can also practice sewing on your new skillshare patch!
- soccer skills for kids and grownups – david
all ages and skill levels welcome to come and work on their game, or learn it for the first time. practice drills and learn some competitive and non competitive games for when you have just a few players.

lousiana transplant parker will teach you the secrets of great veggie gumbo; which you’ll then dish up to all the appreciative and hungry skillsharers.

participants will learn to identify and treat their aches and pains from the everyday grind of their jobs and lifestyles.
- gimp image manipulation –adam
gimp is a free, easy to learn computer program that lets you create and edit images. in this workshop you’ll learn the basics by making your own poster.

learn about herbal medicine and take home some herbal tinctures you make today.

Hands on traditional bamboo + paper kite making. You’ll leave with a kite that’s ready to fly!
- Gifted Artist? Neither are we...- susan
come join us anyway and learn how to become a "gifting" artist instead....Susan will supply you with some useful starter knowledge and in no time you'll be on your way to fashioning practical, handmade gifts - all created using bits from a box o' random and/or other common household and backyard materials. A simple, personalized, handmade present is such an endearing, genuine gesture stating, "I care about you, so i've actually given this some thought." The project ideas range from as basic as using a magazine and a stapler to creating unique multi-media masterpieces. There will be examples onhand to peruse and materials for completing your first project as a "gifting" artist: the postcard.

Are you frustrated because your flyers lack “zazz”? Attract notice to your event by using good design skils and a handy little tool called photoshop.

does that even need any explanation? In this workshop, a follow-up session will be scheduled to bottle and bring home the batch of beer started today.

This session will focus on editing the footage from today, and then we’ll watch the final product on the big screen.
- raising babies anarcha-feminist style (birth to age two) –cory
Using doll baby substitutes, we"ll learn some practical skills like baby-wearing, breastfeading, and communication with toddlers, while discussing the anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian reasons for these practices. Most of the workshop will focus on very very young people, but if we have time we"ll also discuss schooling, nutrition, media/marketing to and freeing kids from compulsory gender. Parents, potential parents, and people who are just curious about relating to parents and kids are all welcome to participate. please bring water to drink.

you’ll be helping to set up rhizome’s new evaporative cooling system, an AC alternative that uses a small amount of water to cool outdoor and warehouse spaces by (potentially) 20 degrees! no previous experience neccesary, come and learn how to set these things up.
- how to start treasure city thrift or your crazy new project – brian
This workshop will focus on how to form a collective, patience, $, what we are trying to do, history of treasure city thrift, and political influences on the shape and scope of the project. You’ll leave with dreams and inspiration.

learn how to chop up a string of plug in christmas lights and convert them to battery power. take home your own mini string to light up your bike, yard, or anything else you can think of.

- dj skills (or, how to launch urban assault independent media via the radio) – bullet
a hands-on exploration of everything it takes to envision, produce, create, and execute a web-based radio program. There will be lessons, demonstrations, and guidance in doing your own pre-production/sound editing, mixing music, using audio equipment, dj'ing, etc. If there's time, participants will burn a cd with their own little mini-program.
- paper mache puppet making- virginia
build your puppets from scratch using your own homemade wheat paste and old newspaper. dream up your own characters, give them their own strange personalities. if you want, you and your new buddy can take part in an upcoming choose your own adventure puppet show.
-low tech tattoo – cory
also known as “stick and poke” you’ll practice giving a cheap and simple tattoo to yourself or a friend. come with one color design ideas if you’d like, or just watch and learn.

-crochet for the everyday – chris
Participants will learn all steps required to complete a small crocheted piece of craft, including, reading a yarn label, making a slip knot, starting a chain, single crocheting, finishing a yarn end, and having fun. No knowledge of crochet or other crafts required.

Linux is a modular Unix-like operating system. Come learn the basics in a supportive setting. No previous programming experience required.

this time is set aside as a forum to give feedback on the first skillshare austin, and brainstorm about the potential for future events. come hang out if you’d like to get involved. if there’s interest, we’ll also share what we’ve learned in the past few weeks about using drupal, the content management system behind the websites many of austin’s favorite radical projects, including monkeywrench books, treasure city thrift, and skillshare austin.
